Bhind Tourism

Situated in the north-west Chambal region of Madhya Pradesh, Bhind, it is famous for its ravines, fertile land and dense forests. Best Time to Visit Bhind

Bhind being situated in central India is very hot during summers with temperatures ranging from 30°C to 45°C during the period of of March to June. So it is better to avoid visiting the city during the summer season as one will not be able to explore around in the hot weather conditions. From July onwards Monsoon season arrives in Bhind with medium to heavy rainfall which brings a new life to the city. It works as a lifeline of Bhind and rejuvenates & nourishes the fertile soil, agriculture being the main occupation of the district. The rainy season lasts till September after which winters comes. Winter season is considered to be the best time to visit Bhind with temperatures between 17°C to 25°C one can easily wander around. Bhind: Past & Present

Bhind has an interesting history dating back to Mahabharata period. If we explore the history of this intriguing city, it is found that it was ruled by Yadu, during the Vedic period. Later it was Chedi King Shishupal at the start of the Mahabharat Era. King Yadav Krishna established the Yadav rule in Bhind region. The area then witnessed the rule of Chandels, Chauhan Dynasty, Mughals rule and Holkar/Scindia dynasty. After independence the state was divided into six districts, Bhind being one of them and has been constantly progressing in terms of infrastructure and facilities. A favourite place for tourists, Bhind offers abundance of natural beauty with dense green forests, flowing rivers, refreshing lakes besides historical monuments & temples thus making it as a must visit place in India.

Tourist Attractions in Bhind

The intriguing city of Bhind in MP offers is dotted with attractions like forts, rock formations, hillocks, ravines, dense forests & ancient temples. Bhind is home to many ancient temples. In recent years it has emerged as an important site for adventure sports. Those looking for adventure can visit the magnificent Fort of Ater. It is one of the 16 districts of Madhya Pradesh and is known for its beauty & tranquility. Spread across an area of 4,459 sq. km., the district is bestowed with very fertile soil which is ideal for farming. The beautiful & refreshing rivers like Sind, Kali and Chambal rivers surround the district giving it an added charm. Tourist places in Bhind

Chhatri of Malhar Rao Holkar was erected by Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar in 1766 A.D to honor the great Maratha ganeral. It stands apart with its beautiful carvings and magnificent architecture. It has resemblance with the pattern of the chhatris of Holkar rulers at Indore nwhich is ornately carved with floral and leaf patterns. The Maratha style chhatri represents a beautiful blend of shikhar dome and arch, on which Kalash has been made in a very attractive manner. The first storey of the chhatri is a pillared hall decorated with fascinating paintings.

Ater Fort

The fort is nearly 35kms to the west of Bhind district. Located deep inside the ravines of Chambal the intriguing fort was built by Bhadauria King Badan Singh, Maha Singh and Bakhat Singh during 1664-1668. The area is also known as Badhwar and can be reached by bus, jeep or car which can easily be taken from Bhind Bus-stand or Ater road. Visiting times are from 6 am to 4 pm only and it is advisable not to go there after sun-set. Badan Singh Ka Mahal, Khooni Darwaza, Raja Ka Bangla, Hathiapor, Rani Ka Bangla and 'Barah Khamba Mahal' are some of the famous attractions of the Fort.

Gohad Fort

Built in the 16th century by Jat Kings Maha Singh these ancient forts depict the history of an era gone by. One is still awestruck by the fine carvings on the walls of the Mahal; the 'Kachhari Mahal' present inside the fort is a living example of the Iranian Art. Presently several Government Offices are operating from the fort and one can easily reach there by bus or private vehicles.

Shri Rawatpura Dham

Temples in BhindOne of the most visited places this temple of Lord Hanuman is situated in Lahar tehsil of Bhind. Also known as the Rawatpura Dham the place has a natural & scenic beauty to it. The region finds a place in Mahabharata and is related to the tale of Pandavs.

Vankhandeshwar Temple

This is an ancient Shiv temple located in Bhind town. The temple was built in 1175 AD by King Prathwiraj Chauhan. Many devotees visit the place from near & far. An Akhand Jyoti has been burning in the temple since ages and people come and pray here to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.

Jain Temples of Baranso

This temple is situated at Barason in Mehgaon tehsil 5 Kms South East of Bhind on the Bhind Gwalior Road . It was built to mark the visit of Lord Mahavir to this region and are amongst the Atishaya Kshetra that is a place where Lord Mahavira came in course of his journey after attaining Kaivalya or Ultimate Realization. Jain temple of Lord Nemi Nath at Pavai near Bhind town and Lord Parswa Nath at Barahi, situated at 20 kms from Bhind on the bank of Chambal River are considered as the other Atishaya Kshetras. Digambar Jain Parasnath Jinalaya in village Simar Biragma, nearly 20 Kms from Bhind is another ancient holy place of Jains. Bhind town has nearly 60 Jain temples which can only be reached by tanga or by a personal vehicle.

Mata Renuka Temple at Jamdara

Famous as the birthplace of Maharshi Parashuram it is located in Gohad Tehsil close to Mau. According to an ancient folklore it is believed that father of Maharshi Parashuram ordered him to cut the head of Mother Renuka to which he agreed but in return asked for again bringing alive the dead mother. Maharshi Jamdagini the father of Parashuram agreed to revive the dead mother and the temple was built to commemorate the incident. Thus there is an idol of Mother Renuka with the separated head in the temple which people come to pay homage to.

Maharishi Narad Dev Temple

The temple of Maharshi Narad Dev it is located on the banks of River Kali and can be reached by Lahaar Madori road. The God Narad Dev is worshipped here with great respect & fervour.

National Chambal (Gharial) Wildlife Sanctuary

Situated on the banks of river Chambal about 22 kms from Bhind town, the National Chambal (Gharial) Wildlife Sanctuary is famous for its wildlife lie crocodiles, ganges dolphins, ghariyals, and various migratory birds. For adventure seekers there is a boat cruise which is arranged by local Forest Officials.

How to Reach Bhind ?

Named after the Bhindi Rishi (Sage Bhindi) the district is well connected by Air, Roads & Railways.
The nearest airport is the Gwalior airport which is situated at a distance of 63.5 kms from Bhind. One can reach here and then take a bus or taxi to Bhind. Regular flights operate from Gwalior airport connecting to major cities like Delhi, Kanpur , Indore, etc. Bhind city offers a network of both private & Government run Buses which ply from one point in the city to another. The buses are well maintained and cover the entire district of Bhind and adjoining areas and charge a nominal fare. The buses are easily available at designated points and tourists should inquire about the destination point and how much time it will take to reach before boarding the bus.
